Inflation Pressure in Crypto, Security Focus in Ethereum

As of October 15, the
crypto market is showing a more cautious outlook following hotter-than-expected US inflation data. Bitcoin is trading at around $80,800 and Ethereum near $2,350, while the US spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs have recorded substantial net outflows again. XRP funds, meanwhile, diverged from the broader trend with a modest inflow, while Ethereum’s technical priorities in ZK technology are shifting from speed toward security and verifiability.
Market Perspective: Inflation Increases Rate Uncertainty
US consumer prices rose 0.6% month over month and 3.7% year over year in September. Annual inflation increased from 3.4% in August, while core CPI excluding food and energy rose 0.3% on the month and 2.6% over the year. The energy index increased 5.2% during the month, while a 9.1% rise in gasoline prices accounted for more than half of the monthly increase in headline inflation.
Bitcoin fell below $82,000 following the release, while Treasury yields also moved higher. The reaction shows that inflation has renewed monetary-policy uncertainty ahead of the Fed’s October 27–28 meeting. However, it would be inaccurate to conclude from a single CPI report that the interest-rate decision or Bitcoin’s next direction has already been determined.
ETF Flows: Bitcoin and Ethereum See Outflows While XRP Records a Modest Inflow
According to Farside data, US spot
Bitcoin ETFs recorded $261.4 million in net outflows on October 14. The previous session had seen $175.7 million in inflows. Across the three trading sessions from October 12 through October 14, Bitcoin ETFs therefore recorded approximately $151.1 million in net outflows.
Spot Ethereum ETFs recorded $129.5 million in net outflows on October 14. Total outflows over the three-day period from October 12 through October 14 reached approximately $190.1 million. Combined three-day outflows across Bitcoin and Ethereum products therefore totaled approximately $341.2 million.
XRP ETFs, meanwhile, recorded approximately $740,000 in net inflows on October 14, diverging from the broader outflow trend across the major crypto fund categories being tracked. XRP funds have attracted approximately $8.9 million over the past week and around $91 million over the past month. Although these figures are smaller than those for Bitcoin and Ethereum, they show that fund flows are not moving in the same direction across all crypto assets.
Bitcoin ETF Outflows Accelerate Again
The $261.4 million outflow from Bitcoin ETFs on October 14 more than reversed the $175.7 million inflow recorded one day earlier. The rapid return to negative daily flows shows that institutional fund movements have remained highly volatile in recent weeks.
Bitcoin also moved below $82,000 during the same period and fell toward the $80,800 region during Asian trading on October 15. However, the fact that ETF outflows and weaker prices occurred at the same time does not mean that ETFs were the sole cause of the decline. Inflation data, higher Treasury yields and weaker global risk appetite are also influencing market pricing.
The fact that XRP funds recorded a modest positive flow on the same day also shows that demand for institutional products can diverge by asset. However, a single-day inflow of approximately $740,000 should not be treated as a standalone indicator of
XRP price direction.
Hotter Inflation Adds to Bitcoin’s Macro Pressure
US CPI rose 0.6% in September, while annual inflation increased to 3.7%. Energy prices accounted for a significant portion of the monthly increase, highlighting why the composition of current inflation pressure also matters. Core inflation stood at 2.6% year over year.
In the minutes following the release,
Bitcoin fell from approximately $83,860 to $82,731. Although a limited recovery followed, selling pressure continued into October 15 and Bitcoin tested below $81,000.
The Fed’s next meeting is scheduled for October 27–28. While the renewed acceleration in inflation is relevant to the interest-rate outlook, the Fed’s decision will depend not only on CPI but also on employment and other economic data. The current environment is therefore better viewed as one of increased uncertainty around funding conditions rather than as confirmation of another rate hike or a predetermined direction for Bitcoin.
Ethereum’s ZK Focus Shifts From Speed to Security
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said the race to make zero-knowledge proofs fast enough for Ethereum has largely been won and that security should now become the main priority for zkEVM systems. His comments followed ZKsync’s announcement that its new Airbender Prime prover generated 99% of proofs in under 10 seconds across 7,200 consecutive Ethereum mainnet blocks. It is also important to note that these performance figures are based on ZKsync’s own evaluation.
ZK proofs can allow validators to verify a shorter proof that a computation was performed correctly instead of re-executing every transaction. Over the long term, this approach could contribute to more efficient Ethereum validation.
Buterin is now emphasizing security criteria including compatibility with Ethereum standards, limits on proving costs and formal verification of the underlying systems. This development does not directly change Ethereum’s supply, staking rewards or transaction fees today. The ZK milestone should therefore be viewed as part of Ethereum’s long-term scaling and security roadmap rather than as a direct catalyst for the
ETH price.
CoinTR Insight
Today’s three developments show that macroeconomic conditions, capital flows and technical infrastructure operate across different time horizons in the crypto market. Inflation data and ETF outflows are affecting short-term pricing, while positive divergence in XRP funds shows that institutional capital is not moving in the same direction across every asset. Ethereum’s decision to prioritize security in ZK technology, meanwhile, reflects the long-term development of blockchain infrastructure independently of short-term price movements.
During periods when prices and fund flows can change quickly following macroeconomic releases, liquidity and gradual order management remain important. CoinTR’s deep liquidity infrastructure and strong
USDT/TRY trading flow are among the infrastructure features that support more controlled transaction management under changing market conditions.
Forward-Looking Takeaway
-
Bitcoin ETF flows: Whether the $261.4 million outflow recorded on October 14 continues in subsequent sessions will be closely watched. A return to positive flows could suggest that the latest move remained a short-term repositioning event.
-
The Fed’s October 27–28 meeting: Following the rise in annual CPI to 3.7%, new employment and economic-activity data will be important in shaping interest-rate expectations.
-
XRP ETF demand: Whether positive weekly flows into XRP products continue despite broader crypto fund outflows will be important. Multi-week fund movements will provide a more meaningful signal than small single-day inflows.
-
Ethereum ZK security: The next important stage will be whether higher proving speeds are supported by independent audits and formal verification. Improvements in speed alone do not establish a secure zkEVM infrastructure.
