Institutional Interest in Bitcoin Accelerates Again
As of October 20, the crypto market is showing a cautious outlook, with Bitcoin trading at around $81,500, Ethereum near $2,410 and XRP around $1.30. While Bitcoin continues to fluctuate around the $82,000 region, more than $500 million in new capital flowed into spot ETFs. JPMorgan Asset Management has also included Bitcoin in its long-term capital market assumptions for the first time, while XRP exchange inflows exceeding 6 billion tokens over the past 30 days are drawing attention.

Market Perspective: Fund Demand Diverges From Price Action

Bitcoin price closed October 19 at around $81,900 and is trading within the $81,000–$82,000 range on October 20. At the same time, spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded strong capital inflows in the latest session, showing that short-term fund demand and price performance are not moving in the same direction.
A similar distinction applies to XRP, where no direct relationship can be established between on-chain activity and price. The amount of XRP moving to exchanges has reached a seven-month high while the price remains around $1.30. Higher exchange inflows may be associated with increased trading activity or readily available liquidity, but moving tokens to exchanges does not by itself mean that they have been sold.

ETF Flows: Strong Bitcoin Inflows, Ethereum Outflows

According to Farside data, US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $526.7 million in net inflows on October 19. This was the largest daily Bitcoin ETF inflow since the $714.7 million recorded on September 22. The move is particularly notable after approximately $228.4 million in net outflows during the previous completed trading week.
Spot Ethereum ETFs recorded $103.3 million in net outflows on the same day. Combined daily flows across Bitcoin and Ethereum products were therefore approximately $423.4 million net positive. Continued outflows from Ethereum products show that short-term institutional fund demand is once again diverging between the two major assets.
Solana ETFs also recorded approximately $6.7 million in net outflows on October 19. The data shows that the latest strong positive capital movement was concentrated primarily in Bitcoin products.

Capital Returns to Bitcoin ETFs

The $526.7 million net inflow into Bitcoin ETFs on October 19 represented a clear daily reversal in fund demand following recent weeks of outflows. Farside data shows that most of the inflow was concentrated in a single fund, while some products recorded outflows on the same day, meaning the headline figure did not represent evenly distributed demand across the entire ETF market.
A single day of strong inflows is therefore not enough to conclude that institutional demand has entered a sustained acceleration. Bitcoin remaining below $82,000 during the same period also shows that the effect of new ETF capital needs to be considered alongside spot-market selling and broader macroeconomic conditions.
The more meaningful indicator in the coming sessions will be whether inflows continue for several days. Consecutive positive flows could indicate a more durable shift in demand following the fund outflows of the previous two weeks, while another large outflow could suggest that the October 19 move was limited to one-day repositioning.

JPMorgan Adds Bitcoin to Its Long-Term Assumptions

JPMorgan Asset Management included Bitcoin in its long-term return analysis for the first time in its 2027 Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions. Its base assumption estimates an annualized return of approximately 10% for Bitcoin, compared with 7.5% for US large-cap equities and 5.5% for gold. The report’s broader projections are designed for a 10- to 15-year strategic planning horizon.
However, the 10% figure is not a guaranteed return or a price target. JPMorgan’s Bitcoin model includes a wide range of outcomes: the positive scenario estimates an annualized return of 16.6%, while the negative scenario implies an annualized 11.2% loss. This broad range shows that uncertainty around Bitcoin’s long-term outcomes is an important part of the model itself.
JPMorgan also sees Bitcoin’s unstable correlations with other assets as a limitation for strategic portfolio use and does not yet include Bitcoin in its main covariance matrices. The report therefore represents less investment recommendations and more of an indication that Bitcoin is beginning to be assessed as a distinct category in long-term capital market analysis.

XRP’s 30-Day Exchange Inflows Exceed 6 Billion

According to analysis based on CryptoQuant data, XRP exchange inflows over the 30 days through October 19 reached 6.05 billion XRP. This was the highest level since March and roughly double the amount seen in mid-August.
The increase in tokens moving to exchanges may indicate greater tradable liquidity. However, it would be inaccurate to interpret the data as meaning that 6.05 billion XRP has been directly sold. Exchange inflows can result from trading, liquidity management or transfers of assets between wallets and trading venues.
Large-investor activity showed a weaker picture over the same period. According to CryptoQuant data, the 90-day moving average of XRP outflows from exchanges by large holders fell to $49.7 million, its lowest level since October 2021. This suggests that large-investor activity is more limited than in previous periods, but it does not by itself provide a signal about future demand or price direction.
With XRP trading at around $1.30, the next stage should be assessed not only through the volume of exchange inflows, but also through how much of those tokens remain on exchanges, how exchange balances change and how spot-market activity develops.

CoinTR Insight

Today’s three developments show that institutional fund demand, long-term expectations and on-chain asset movements do not measure the same thing in the crypto market. More than half a billion dollars in new capital entered Bitcoin ETFs while the price showed more limited movement. JPMorgan’s long-term model assigns Bitcoin a higher base return assumption, but its wide positive and negative scenario range highlights continued uncertainty. Rising XRP exchange inflows may point to greater tradable liquidity, but they do not directly indicate selling.
During periods when capital flows can change quickly, liquidity and gradual order management remain important. CoinTR’s deep liquidity infrastructure and strong USDT/TRY trading flow are among the infrastructure features that support more controlled transaction management under changing market conditions.

Forward-Looking Takeaway

  • Bitcoin ETF flows: Whether the $526.7 million inflow recorded on October 19 continues in subsequent sessions will be closely watched. Positive flows sustained over several days would provide a stronger indication of institutional demand than a single-day figure.
  • Bitcoin’s long-term projections: JPMorgan’s 10% base assumption is not a short-term price target and includes a wide range of positive and negative scenarios. Changes in the institution’s assumptions for Bitcoin’s risk, return and correlations in future annual updates will be more meaningful.
  • Ethereum ETFs: The $103.3 million Ethereum outflow alongside strong Bitcoin inflows has once again highlighted a divergence in institutional fund demand between the two assets. Whether Ethereum flows remain negative will be closely watched.
  • XRP exchange activity: Following 30-day inflows of 6.05 billion XRP, changes in exchange balances, spot activity and large-investor movements will be important. The amount of assets transferred to exchanges should not be treated as direct selling pressure on its own.
