The Cost of Capital Takes Center Stage in Crypto
As of October 14, the crypto market is showing a balanced but cautious outlook, with Bitcoin trading at around $83,400, Ethereum near $2,500 and XRP around $1.37. US Treasury yields remaining above 5% are increasing competition for capital for non-yielding assets such as Bitcoin, while social-media optimism and ETF demand are sending different signals to Ethereum. On the XRP Ledger side, a new partnership expanding programmable wallet infrastructure is also drawing attention.

Market Perspective: Safer Yields Increase Competition for Capital

The US 10-year Treasury yield has remained above 5% throughout October. According to US Treasury data, the 10-year yield reached 5.28% on October 7 before standing at 5.21% on October 13. While these levels offer investors high nominal yields through government bonds, they also increase the opportunity cost of holding assets such as Bitcoin that do not generate regular cash flows.
This does not represent a direct negative price signal for Bitcoin. Bitcoin demand is influenced by multiple variables, including ETF flows, global liquidity, spot-market activity and investor expectations. However, government bonds offering yields above 5% increase the competition faced by more volatile assets in portfolio allocation decisions.
The market’s key macroeconomic event today will be the US consumer inflation report for September. The BLS will release the data on October 14 at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time, or 3:30 p.m. Türkiye time. Its impact on Treasury yields and interest-rate expectations will also be closely watched in the short-term pricing of the crypto market.

ETF Flows: Bitcoin and Ethereum Return to Positive Territory

According to Farside data, US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $109.8 million in net inflows on October 13. The previous session had seen $65.4 million in outflows. Bitcoin ETFs therefore recorded approximately $44.4 million in positive net flows over the first two trading sessions of the week.
Spot Ethereum ETFs also recorded $16.7 million in net inflows on October 13. This is particularly notable because Ethereum ETFs had recorded net outflows for 10 consecutive trading sessions from September 29 through October 12. The latest inflow ended that streak, although it has not yet offset the substantial outflows accumulated over the preceding period.
Combined net inflows into Bitcoin and Ethereum products reached approximately $126.5 million on October 13. A single positive session is not enough to conclude that institutional demand has entered sustained acceleration, but after the substantial outflows of recent weeks, it provides a new data point suggesting that fund flows may be starting to stabilize.

Higher Treasury Yields Compete With Bitcoin

The central argument highlighted in the source report is that Bitcoin is now facing stronger competition for capital from US government bonds yielding more than 5%. Bitcoin does not generate interest or dividends, meaning investor returns depend primarily on price appreciation, while Treasury securities offer a fixed-income alternative.
This difference becomes particularly important during periods when interest rates remain elevated for longer. Higher bond yields can increase the opportunity cost of capital not only for Bitcoin but also for growth stocks and other risk assets.
However, it would be inaccurate to interpret high Treasury yields as evidence that Bitcoin demand must weaken. The return of $109.8 million in net inflows to Bitcoin ETFs on October 13 shows that demand through regulated products has not disappeared even in a high-yield environment.

Ethereum Optimism Diverges From ETF Demand

In Ethereum, market sentiment and capital flows have recently been pointed in different directions. According to the source report, which cites Santiment data, Ethereum is receiving approximately 2.05 positive social-media comments for every negative comment. At the same time, Ethereum ETFs recorded net outflows for 10 consecutive trading sessions through October 12.
This divergence shows why social-media interest alone is not sufficient to measure real investment demand. Strong optimism can reflect short-term expectations, while ETF flows provide a different data point based on actual capital movements through regulated investment products.
The $16.7 million net inflow into Ethereum ETFs on October 13 ended the 10-day negative streak. However, one day of inflows is not enough to conclude that institutional demand for Ethereum has permanently changed direction. Whether inflows continue in subsequent sessions will provide a more meaningful indication of whether social-media optimism is being supported by broader capital demand.

XRP Ledger Expands Its Programmable Wallet Infrastructure

Ripple and Stripe-owned Privy announced a new partnership bringing programmable and embedded wallet infrastructure to the XRP Ledger. According to Privy’s official announcement, developers will be able to create wallets programmatically on XRPL, sign transactions and build applications that can use XRP, RLUSD and other digital assets.
One of the use cases highlighted by the infrastructure is “agentic commerce,” in which software or AI agents can automatically carry out certain transactions. The XRP Ledger also supports the x402 protocol. This protocol allows software to create machine-to-machine payment flows for resources such as API access or digital services.
However, this development does not guarantee direct demand for XRP or an increase in its price. The availability of technological infrastructure and actual commercial adoption are separate stages. The more meaningful indicator will be whether applications built on the infrastructure generate real users and transaction activity.
This development also relates to global blockchain infrastructure and does not change payment regulations in Türkiye. The existing TCMB regulation continues to prohibit the direct or indirect use of crypto assets for payments in Türkiye. The XRPL use cases described above should therefore not be interpreted as meaning that unrestricted crypto payment services are permitted in Türkiye.

CoinTR Insight

Today’s three developments show that the cost of capital, investor sentiment and technological utility need to be assessed separately in the crypto market. Higher Treasury yields are increasing alternative-return competition for Bitcoin, while social-media optimism around Ethereum does not fully align with the recent behavior of ETF investors. The new wallet infrastructure on the XRP Ledger, meanwhile, shows that blockchain use cases continue to develop independently of short-term price movements.
During periods when macroeconomic data and fund flows can change quickly, liquidity and gradual order management remain important. CoinTR’s deep liquidity infrastructure and strong USDT/TRY trading flow are among the infrastructure features that support more controlled transaction management under changing market conditions.

Forward-Looking Takeaway

  • US inflation data: The impact of the September CPI report, scheduled for October 14, on Treasury yields will be closely watched. Changes in the inflation outlook could lead to renewed repricing of interest-rate expectations ahead of the Fed’s October 27–28 meeting.
  • Treasury yields: Whether the US 10-year Treasury yield remains above 5% will be important for the level of competition for capital across risk assets. A sustained decline in yields could reduce some of the pressure created by tighter funding conditions.
  • Ethereum ETFs: Following the end of the 10-day outflow streak on October 13, whether new inflows continue will be closely watched. Consecutive positive sessions would provide a stronger demand signal than a single-day move.
  • XRPL usage data: Following the Privy integration, whether programmable wallets and agentic-commerce applications generate real usage will be important. Technical integration alone does not imply economic adoption or demand for XRP.
