The ETF and Quantum Agenda on Solana
As of October 21, the crypto market is showing a balanced but selective outlook, with Bitcoin trading at around $82,700, Ethereum near $2,440 and Solana around $106. In Bitcoin, its potential role alongside gold as a portfolio hedge is being debated again, while Solana’s on-chain usage remains strong despite ETF outflows. Over the longer term, advances in artificial intelligence and quantum-computing research are also bringing the cryptographic preparedness of blockchain networks back into focus.

Market Perspective: Resilience Is Being Assessed Beyond Price

Bitcoin is trading at around $82,700 on October 21 after ending October 20 near $83,000. Solana, meanwhile, fell to the $106 region from levels around $119 in late September. Despite this decline, tokenized-asset activity and user activity on the Solana network remain elevated.
Today’s three developments point to different layers of resilience beyond short-term price movements. Bitcoin’s role in portfolio diversification, real network usage on Solana and the long-term cryptographic security of blockchain networks all need to be assessed separately.

ETF Flows: Bitcoin Positive, Ethereum and Solana Negative

According to Farside data, US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $23.2 million in net inflows on October 20. Combined with the substantial $526.7 million inflow in the previous session, total Bitcoin ETF inflows during the first two trading days of the week reached approximately $549.9 million.
Spot Ethereum ETFs recorded $26.1 million in net outflows on October 20. Combined daily flows across Bitcoin and Ethereum products were therefore approximately $2.9 million net negative, while combined flows over the first two trading days of the week remained approximately $420.5 million positive.
Solana ETFs also recorded $2.6 million in net outflows on October 20. Every Solana ETF trading session between October 5 and October 20 ended in negative territory, bringing cumulative outflows over the period to approximately $59.8 million. This weakness in ETF demand is creating a clear divergence from on-chain usage indicators.

The Portfolio Roles of Gold and Bitcoin Are Back in Focus

CNBC host Jim Cramer said in response to a viewer’s question about portfolio protection that he preferred gold to Bitcoin, although he did not dismiss Bitcoin entirely. Cramer also distinguished Bitcoin and Ethereum from more speculative crypto assets. These comments represent a personal market view and do not imply any form of regulatory “approval” for Bitcoin or Ethereum.
The broader debate concerns whether gold and Bitcoin serve the same function within a portfolio. Gold has a long history as a diversification asset during periods of crisis and inflation, while Bitcoin has a shorter track record and substantially higher price volatility.
Rather than reducing the comparison to which asset is “better,” the two need to be assessed through their volatility, liquidity, investment horizon and behavior under different market conditions. Personal market commentary should not be treated as investment guidance.

Solana Network Usage Remains Strong Despite ETF Outflows

Solana is trading at around $106 while US spot Solana ETFs have recorded net outflows since the beginning of October. Including the $2.6 million outflow on October 20, cumulative withdrawals since October 5 have reached approximately $59.8 million.
On-chain indicators, however, show a different picture. According to the Solana Foundation’s September data, the total value of real-world assets on the network reached $4.6 billion, while stablecoin supply rose to $17.51 billion. The number of wallets holding tokenized equities exceeded 1 million during the month, and the network processed 3.18 billion non-vote transactions.
The source report also highlights that real-world assets excluding stablecoins remain at around $4.4 billion and that individual adoption indicators continue to rise. These figures show that application and asset usage on the network are not declining at the same pace as SOL price or ETF demand.
However, strong on-chain activity does not guarantee an increase in SOL’s price. A significant share of tokenized assets represents dollar-denominated or other financial instruments, so growth in network usage should not be assumed to translate directly into demand for SOL.

AI and Quantum Advances Put Bitcoin Security in Focus

Justin Sun argued that advances in AI-assisted mathematics and quantum-computing research deserve greater attention when assessing Bitcoin’s long-term cryptographic security. However, there is currently no operational quantum computer capable of breaking Bitcoin’s core cryptography.
In research published in March, Google Quantum AI estimated that a future cryptographically relevant quantum computer could break elliptic-curve cryptography using fewer resources than previously expected. Under specific standard assumptions, researchers estimate that the 256-bit elliptic-curve problem could be solved with fewer than 500,000 physical qubits. That estimate is roughly 20 times lower than previous calculations.
On October 15, Google also announced that it had implemented “magic state cultivation” on its Willow processor, reducing errors by approximately 40 times. However, Willow currently has only 105 qubits, and the development does not mean that Bitcoin’s cryptography has been broken. Rather, the research demonstrates progress in overcoming an important technical bottleneck for scalable, error-corrected quantum computing.
It would therefore be inaccurate to interpret the current situation as meaning that “Bitcoin will soon be broken.” The more meaningful issue is how early blockchain communities develop technical and governance plans for a transition to post-quantum signature systems before cryptographically relevant quantum computers emerge. Google also identifies preparation for post-quantum cryptography as the long-term path toward mitigating this risk.

CoinTR Insight

Today’s three developments show that resilience in the crypto market cannot be measured by price performance alone. Bitcoin’s portfolio role can be assessed differently by different investors, while Solana can maintain strong on-chain usage even as ETF flows remain negative. The discussion around AI and quantum computing also highlights the importance of long-term security preparedness for blockchain protocols independently of market prices.
During periods when fund flows and prices can diverge quickly, liquidity and gradual order management remain important. CoinTR’s deep liquidity infrastructure and strong USDT/TRY trading flow are among the infrastructure features that support more controlled transaction management under changing market conditions.

Forward-Looking Takeaway

  • Bitcoin ETF demand: Approximately $549.9 million entered Bitcoin ETFs over the first two sessions of the week, although the second day’s inflow was more limited at $23.2 million. Whether inflows continue in subsequent sessions will provide a more meaningful indication of the strength of short-term institutional demand.
  • Solana’s price-usage divergence: In addition to ETF flows, whether RWA value, tokenized-asset users and network activity remain elevated will be important. Growth in network usage should not be treated as a standalone directional signal for SOL’s price.
  • Quantum research: Current systems are not operating at a scale that threatens Bitcoin’s cryptography. However, progress in error correction and reductions in the estimated qubit requirements are increasing the long-term importance of post-quantum transition planning.
  • Safe-haven debate: Because gold and Bitcoin have different volatility profiles and market histories, broad conclusions should not be drawn from a single investor’s view. How the two assets behave during periods of market stress remains a question best assessed through longer-term data.
