The
crypto asset market this week was shaped by rapid changes in spot ETF flows, continued outflows from Ethereum funds and Strategy’s capital management moves. More than $635 million flowed out of Bitcoin ETFs in a single day following a strong three-day inflow streak, bringing the sensitivity of institutional demand to price movements back into focus.
Ethereum ETF net outflows exceeded $1 billion in October, while Strategy continued to buy Bitcoin but allocated a larger share of its capital to preferred stock buybacks. On the market side, Bitcoin tested above $84,000 during the week before returning to the $81,000 area in search of balance.
Bitcoin ETF Flows Change Direction Quickly
US
spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $635.5 million in net outflows on October 22. The funds had received roughly $528 million in inflows one day earlier, while the latest outflow ended a three-day inflow streak totaling more than $1 billion.
The rapid shift in flows shows that ETF investors are behaving more selectively in response to short-term price movements. Data indicates that fund outflows can also become more pronounced when Bitcoin experiences deeper pullbacks.
Why does it matter?
Spot ETFs are an important indicator for tracking institutional demand for Bitcoin through regulated products. The fact that daily inflows and outflows can change direction quickly shows that investors are placing greater emphasis on short-term risk management alongside longer-term positioning in the current environment.
Ethereum ETF Outflows Exceed $1 Billion in October
Net outflows from US spot
Ethereum ETFs have reached $1.08 billion since the beginning of October. This erased the $832 million in net inflows recorded in September, while October became the month with the highest outflows since November 2025.
The fund outflows coincided with a more cautious price picture for Ethereum. This suggests that demand for Ethereum through regulated investment products has remained weaker compared with Bitcoin.
Why does it matter?
ETF flows are important for assessing Ethereum’s position within institutional investment products. October’s outflows reversing September’s inflows show that institutional demand has not yet established lasting momentum. Whether fund flows begin to rebalance will therefore be important to watch in the coming period.
Strategy Buys Bitcoin While Creating More Room for Capital Management
Strategy purchased 267
Bitcoin at an average price of $82,900 between October 12 and October 18, taking its total holdings to 848,517 BTC. The company spent $22.1 million on new Bitcoin purchases while carrying out approximately $193.1 million in preferred stock buybacks during the same period.
The company also increased its repurchase authorization for digital credit securities from $2 billion to $3 billion. The picture shows that Strategy continues its Bitcoin accumulation strategy while managing its balance sheet and financing structure more actively.
Why does it matter?
Strategy allocating more capital to share buybacks than to Bitcoin purchases shows that its corporate Bitcoin strategy is not solely about asset accumulation. Managing liquidity, borrowing and capital costs together is becoming increasingly important for large-scale crypto balance sheets.
